Ian Holm, who performed Ash, died in 2020, so the movie used CGI to recreate his likeness, and he was voiced by Daniel Betts.
Talking about having Ian seem in Alien: Romulus, Fede Álvarez advised Leisure Weekly, “The entire thing began with me calling the property and speaking along with his widow. She felt that Ian was given the chilly shoulder by Hollywood within the final years of his life, that he would’ve cherished to be a part of extra initiatives after The Hobbit, however he wasn’t. So she was thrilled in regards to the thought of getting him again.”
